Calm Before

Calm Before is my first release, a single twelve-minute piece that, in hindsight, anticipates the Berlin-school direction my work is now returning to. A mid-tone pad opens the track, grounded by a low bass sequence before higher tones and a pulsing plucked melody gradually enter. A steady hi-hat marks the midpoint before receding, leaving a single high pad to ring out alone, slowly replaced by a distorted drone note that fades to silence.

The sound palette is warm and analog-leaning: soft synthesizer pads, sustained tones, and gradual harmonic movement that sits mostly in the low-to-mid range. Timbres feel slightly imperfect and organically modulated rather than digitally precise. Built entirely from Bitwig’s default sequencer and instruments with no outside influence or reference point, the piece unfolds on its own terms. Small shifts in tone and density carry the listener forward.
